Friday, the 13th:

Breakfast either in the hotel (very nice, but $ unless included with your room) or, if you'd prefer, nearby.  At ten AM, board transportation for a short day-trip to visit the The National D-Day Memorial in nearby Bedford.  Have lunch at the site of an old train station there, followed in the afternoon by an introduction to Thomas Jefferson’s retreat, Poplar Forest.

Return to the hotel in time for a little rest, then board transportation for cocktails and dinner (with Virginia wine!) at Bloomenrok, John and Matilda’s home on the side of a residential mountain in South Roanoke.

Saturday, the 14th:

At 10:00 walk across the street to the renovated train station, the home of the O. Winston Link Museum, to enjoy a private tour given by John Pilcher Bradshaw.  (John had a part in its creation some ten years ago).  That will be followed by a visit to the downtown market area for a series of short stops here and there, and lunch.  We'll then proceed to the Transportation Museum, where we'll actually be able to put our hands on one of those big old steam locomotives.  Finally we'll gather back at the hotel to be taken to dinner either on the patio of the Roanoke Country Club if weather permits, else indoors, at The Shenandoah Club.
